The Society has kindly been provided with accommodation at the Western Suburbs Australian Football Club Ltd, Magpie Sports, which is Hampton Street, Croydon Park. Many will know this location which is adjacent to Picken Oval, the venue for many football games in Sydney from 1960.
Since taking up residence at the club, members of the Committee have worked tirelessly to make the room a pleasant environment in which to conduct their activities.
The room measures about 7m x 5m and using Society funds has been furnished with shelving, lockable cupboard space, three computers a state of the art scanner and printer.
Many of the committee attend the offices each Tuesday where they conduct working bees on issues like indexing and cataloguing photographs, football records, minutes and other significant material concerning Australian football in NSW.
At this stage they have concentrated their efforts on Sydney, which a job in itself, and have data ranging from 1866 to the present. The rest of NSW has not been neglected with profiles of various clubs and leagues throughout the state slowly being developed. We welcome more involvement from all over the state.
While material is being donated to the Society on almost a weekly basis they are very keen to obtain copies of specific club and league histories which can form the basis of a broader appreciation of football right throughout New South Wales.
Additionally, the Society is very keen to see regional chapters of their organisation established in major areas throughout the state.
The need to preserve as much information on how, when and why football was played in all districts is paramount in the Society’s goals.
